Prof. Misra has helped shape clinical immunology and rheumatology in India through compassionate specialist care for complex autoimmune rheumatic diseases, formal training programs, translational research, and mentorship of specialists who now contribute to major academic programs in India and abroad.
His work has focused on patient care and research grounded in Indian realities, including autoimmune disease in tuberculosis-endemic settings, locally relevant diagnostic tools, biomarkers, and collaborative disease assessment systems.

National Contribution
Training and Capacity Building
- Built and strengthened formal rheumatology training at SGPGIMS from 1989 onward.
- Mentored a national and international network of clinical immunology and rheumatology specialists.
- Contributed to the Indian Takayasu Activity Score, ITAS 2010, through the IRAVAS collaboration.
- Organised a series of National Autoantibody Workshops at SGPGIMS and KIMS for clinical faculty and residents to build diagnostic capacity.
- Organised a National MSK ultrasound workshop with expert faculty from Michigan and Florida in the USA, Germany, and India.
- Led and contributed to research shaped by Indian public health realities, including tuberculosis risk in autoimmune disease.
